Community Education
Professional Training
The Sexual Assault Program is committed to preventing sexual assault whenever possible. We offer "Lets Talk About Touches", sexual abuse prevention information, to children in Headstarts, elementary schools, day cares, and other settings. We offer date and acquaintance rape prevention information to high schools, colleges, and other interested groups. Our educators speak to community groups about our services or topics of interest to them, such as child sexual abuse, survivor issues, and community prevention.
In keeping with our mission to end sexual violence and to better serve the needs of survivors, we offer training workshops for people who work with children or other at-risk populations and for professionals who may respond to a survivor's report. These include, but are not limited to: camp staff, teachers, parent groups, medical staff, and police officers.
Staff also provides sexual harassment prevention workshops for employers and employees, and for staff and students in educational settings.
In the year 2002 our Program offers a new curriculum to area high schools, "Teens Stopping Rape". This program is a collaborative effort with the Sexual Assault Program staff, the Child Abuse Investigator from the St. Louis County Sheriff's Department, and area schools. The program provides an in-depth curriculum addressing teen sexual violence and alcohol abuse. This curriculum provides a more universal prevention education program for our teen population and presents information concerning:
the age of consent
the clarification of consent vs. sexual assault
the importance of reporting sexual violence
effective ways to end sexual violence
respect and responsibility.
Videos and follow-up discussions include the dynamics of relationships, peer pressure, sex and alcohol abuse and how they can play a part in acquaintance rape. Youth will be able to recognize and explore behaviors and attitudes that contribute to teen sexual violence.
Charges for any of our presentations vary depending on the availability of grants to cover costs. Fees, when charged, are kept to a minimum.
